Job Descriptions

President

  • The President shall attend CSM and NEXT Conference for HOD.
  • The President shall attend and preside at all meetings of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section and the Board of Directors, or delegate that authority to another officer.
  • The President or designee shall attend all APTA meetings in which the President’s presence is required to represent the Section, including the Section President’s Meeting.
  • The president shall serve as the section delegate at the House of Delegates of the Association.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the BOD and Section membership to keep on task to the Section’s mission.
  • Serve on the BOD with one vote.
  • Serve as an ex officio member of all committees, except Nominations.
  • Create and appoint all special and advisory committees necessary to accomplish the function of the Section with the advice and consent of the Board. Direct correspondence to appropriate persons.
  • Compile and provide President’s agenda items for CSM Board Meeting, submit to Secretary 45 days prior to Board Meeting.
  • Coordinate Business Meeting agenda.
  • Compose an annual calendar, including Section deadlines and events, and distribute to BOD at meeting.
  • Submit written Section report annually to APTA by February 15 of each year in office.
  • Notify and prepare the Vice President in the event of inability to perform any duty.
  • Appoint members to fill any vacancies in offices for the unexpired portion of the term, with advice and consent of the majority members of the BOD.
  • Appoint Section liaisons, and act as spokesperson for the Section.
  • Serve as point of contact for section executive director.
  • Compose President’s letter for the quarterly e-newsletter
  • Orient the incoming President Elect following the close of the Business Meeting at CSM.  As part of the orientation process, the immediate past-President shall serve in an advisory capacity for one year so long as such service does not preclude other Section activity.

Vice President

  • Participate in activities as directed by the Cardiovascular & Pulmonary (CVP) Section President or Board of Directors (BOD).
  • Assume the duties of the President if the President is absent or incapacitated.
  • Serve on the CVP BOD with one vote
  • Coordinate the nomination and awarding of the Linda Crane Lectureship Award
  • Serve as coordinator for the CV&P Section’s involvement in specific Section and/or APTA ventures such as Clinical Practice Guidelines, PT Now …etc.
  • Serve as liaison to such committees and task forces as directed by the President.
  • Serve as the Section Delegate to the Association House of Delegates in the absence of the President.
  • Perform other duties as identified by the APTA and Section’s Board of Directors.
  • Orient the incoming Vice President following the close of the Business Meeting at CSM.  As part of the orientation process, the immediate past-Vice President shall serve in an advisory capacity for one year so long as such service does not preclude other Section activity.

Secretary

  • The Secretary shall attend all Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Section (CVP) Meetings including CVP Board of Directors (BOD) and national meetings including CSM.
  • The Secretary shall attend all required meetings that are held by APTA for CVP Section members.
  • Keep minutes of the proceedings of all CVP Section, APTA and member meetings.
  • Serve on the CVP BOD with one vote.
  • Distribute minutes of CVP BOD and CVP Section Meetings to the CVP BOD, APTA Board liaison, and APTA’s director of component services within 14 days of said meeting.
  • Distribute minutes of the CVP BOD and CVP Section Business Meetings to the Communications Chair to be published on the CVP Section Website.
  • Maintain records of pertinent materials from all special committees and task forces and all official actions of the CVP Section and BOD.
  • Maintain an updated list of officers, committee chairs, and liaisons, including addresses and phone numbers.
  • Orient the incoming Secretary following the close of the Business Meeting at CSM. As part of the orientation process, the immediate past-Secretary shall serve in an advisory capacity for one year so long as such service does not preclude other Section activity.
  • Each newly elected Secretary shall receive from the outgoing Secretary a copy of the policy and procedure manual, records, and other necessary material for a smooth transition. Permanent records of the Section shall become the property of the new Secretary and CVP Section, to be handed down to his/her successor.

Treasurer

  • The Treasurer shall attend all Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Section (CVP) Meetings including CVP Board of Directors (BOD) and national meetings including CSM.
  • The Treasurer shall attend all required meetings held by APTA for section Treasurers.
  • Serve on the BOD with one vote
  • Submit financial reports by calendar deadlines for CVP BOD and CVP Business and Membership Meetings.
  • Submit financial records annually for audit by membership, CVP BOD, and/or certified public accountant.
  • Income: All income should be submitted to the Executive Office for deposit. Income is from dues, book royalties, sale of newsletters or other fundraisers, and continuing education course registrations.
  • Disbursements: All disbursements must be accounted for in the approved general budget or approved by the CVP BOD. Bills incurred by the CVP Section should be submitted to the Executive Office for payment in a timely manner.
  • Maintain complete and accurate financial records of the CVP Section, including accounts of all receipts and disbursements.
  • Submit proposed annual budget to the President and CVP BOD by November 15.
  • Send copies of all Section correspondence to the Section President
  • Send results of audit and annual financial report to APTA headquarters by May 31.
  • Orient the incoming Treasurer following the close of the Business Meeting at CSM. As part of the orientation process, the immediate past-Treasurer shall serve in an advisory capacity for one year so long as such service does not preclude other Section activity.
  • Each newly elected Treasurer shall receive from the outgoing Treasurer a copy of the policy and procedure manual, all financial records and other materials as deemed necessary for the smooth transition of operations.

Nominating Committee

  • The Nominating Committee of the Cardiovascular & Pulmonary (CVP) Section shall consist of three (3) eligible CVP Section members. One member, elected each year, shall serve a term of three (3) years or until the election or appointment of his or her successor.
  • The senior member of the committee shall serve as Chairperson of the Nominating Committee.
  • The Chairperson shall attend all Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Section (CVP) Meetings including CVP Board of Directors (BOD) and national meetings including CSM.
  • Only the Chairperson of the Nominating Committee will serve on the CVP Board of Directors (BOD) with one vote
  • The Nominating Committee shall seek out candidates for vacant offices, review their qualifications, ascertain their willingness to serve, and nominate eligible and interested members for each available elected office.
  • The Nominating Committee representative shall submit the slate of nominees to the membership at least ninety (90) days prior to the annual CVP Section Business Meeting.
  • The outgoing Chair shall be an ex officio member of the Nominating Committee for the year following the expiration of his or her term of office. This member shall serve in an advisory capacity so long as such service does not preclude other Section activity.
  • The Nominating Committee members should solicit nominations for APTA National Awards, Section Merit, Mentor, and Friend of the CV&P Section Awards.
  • The Nominating Committee should review award nominations and then send the completed nominations to the CVP BOD to vote for the award recipients.
  • The Nominating Committee may seek guidance from the CVP BOD as the Committee chooses.
  • Orient the incoming Nominating Committee Chair following the close of the Business Meeting at CSM.  As part of the orientation process, the immediate past- Nominating Committee Chair shall serve in an advisory capacity for one year so long as such service does not preclude other Section activity.
  • The new Nominating Committee Chair will provide orientation and mentoring to the new Nominating Committee Member.
